Balloon catheters are a medical device that has emerged in recent years and can be used as an adjuvant treatment for digestive tract stenosis, coronary artery stenosis or other diseases. High-quality balloon catheters improve tracking and reduce radiation time for shorter operations, while reducing the length of the wire used for sterile surgical procedures. Three common types of balloon catheters are described below.
1. OTW balloon catheter
The OTW balloon catheter, also known as the integral exchange balloon catheter, is mainly used in patients with chronic total occlusive lesions or when patients need to exchange guidewires, and it can also be used for ventricular septal chemical ablation and transluminal manometry and blood collection. The main advantages of OTW balloon catheters are easy to exchange guidewires and good traceability. Because the OTW balloon provides additional support, it can be pushed into the occluded lesion and then used to shape the guide wire distally to more accurately determine whether the guidewire is truly in the true cavity. It is more commonly used to manage CTO lesions.
2. Fixed guidewire balloon catheter
The catheter is distinguished by a section of plastic soft guidewire at the tip of the balloon. Fixed guidewire balloon catheter is a small type of catheter commonly used, so sub-high lesion span rate, and it can produce better development effect, usually only need a single operation. Currently, it is suitable for use when encountering highly distal narrowed lesions.
3. Perfusion balloon catheter
This type of balloon catheter is designed by having multiple lateral foramen at its proximal distal end, so that while the balloon is inflated, blood flow can pass through the balloon into the distal area of the lesion. Therefore, there are advantages to perfusion balloon catheters when continuous balloon compression is required to manage complications such as coronary perforation.
In summary, the main common types of balloon catheters include OTW, fixed guidewire, perfusion balloon catheter, etc. In addition, well-known balloon catheter manufacturers in China have also developed special types such as double guidewire balloon catheters and cutting balloon catheters. In conclusion, there are now multiple types of balloon catheters for people to use.
